| 3rd term | Elective Elective Elective |
Created in 1980, the Master Economic Theory and Econometrics is historically the first Master in Economics at Toulouse 1 University. Whereas the other Masters have more specialised aims, the Master Economic Theory and Econometrics allows students to acquire a thorough general training before choosing an area of specialisation and helps them to become independent and efficient researchers rapidly. This Master fits the needs of students who are interested in economic theory, econometrics, industrial organisation, or other areas that can cut across specific industries. Furthermore, in the second year of the doctoral programme, it allows for specialisation in the fields studied in other Masters, such as Finance, Environmental Economics or Networks Economics.
Course organisation
Students from the Master take the core TSE courses during the first two terms. Then, they begin to specialise, which enables those who will write a dissertation to make a preliminary choice of topic. During their second year, they will be able to pursue this topic further.
The specialisation stage is organised as such : each student can choose between Quantitative Economics or Econometrics. Each of these topics comprises the following courses :
| Quantitative Economics | Econometrics |
| Industrial organisation | Advanced microeconometrics |
| Public economics 1 and 2 | Econometrics of discrete choice
|
| Trade and competition policy | Empirical models in industrial organisation |
| Theory of institutions | Non parametruic statistics |
| Development economics | Topics in applied econometrics
|
| Labour economics | |
| Game theory | Duration and Transition
|
Students must take at least three courses within the same topic. The fourth elective is chosen (together with the Master's director) amongst the elective of the TSE programme.
Master in Economics of the Environment and Natural Resources
Director : François Salanié
| 1st term | Microeconomics 1 Macroeconomics 1 Econometrics 1 Environmental Economics
|
| 2nd term | Microeconomics 2 Public economics Growth and Resources Risk and Uncertainty or Environmental Regulation

| 3rd term | Electives (6 seminars = half courses) |
This Master was created in 1995 as a result of a growing demand for quantitative economists interested in the environment, natural resources, energy, agriculture and agro-industry. One of the chief objectives of this Master, like for the other research Masters, is to initiate students to theoretical or applied research so as to enable those who wish to pursue their studies to undertake a PhD.
Course organisation
Students must take a combination of TSE core courses, electives and seminars. They must also write a short research thesis and present their results in .front of a Faculty jury.
They must take the courses listed in the above chart. They should then choose six electives (12 ECTS credits) during the third term in the fields of specialisation (agriculture, water, energy) and/or in environmental policy:
Block Agriculture: Agricultural policy & environment ; Food policy.
Block Water: Applied water management : supply, demand and pollution (homework : applied econometrics on provided data sets)
Block Energy: Quantitative aspects of energy production ; Emissions and global warming ; Resources in the long run
General Policy: Environmental policy in open economies ; Environ- mental liability ; Public investment under uncertainty; Environmental evaluation and policy
All the above courses are half courses (i-e 13 1/2 hours).

This Master is offered in collaboration with the prestigious schools E.H.E.S.S. Paris and Ecole Polytechnique. It is designed for graduates of engineering programmes as well as for students coming from more traditional economic and quantitative backgrounds. This Master provides a solid training in microeconomics and econometrics, and courses in industrial organisation, network economics and competition/regulation together with electives according to the specialisation of each individual student.
Course organisation
Students follow the courses highlighted in the above chart, a combination of TSE core courses and electives.
Electives of the 1st term: Transports Economics 1, Macroeconomics 1, Optimization, International Trade & Competition, Workshop (annual) on Competition Policy, Conferences (annual) on I.O. of Networks
Electives of the 2nd term: Transports Economics 2, Industry Regulation, Risk Management, Game Theory, Econometrics of the firm and the consumer , Workshop (annual) on Competition Policy, Conferences (annual) on Industrial Organization of Networks
Electives of the 3rd term: Empirical Models of I.O., Corporate Finance, Financial Econometrics, Time Series Analysis, Economics of Energy, Applied Microeconometrics, etc.
The head of the Master might help tstudents in the choice of their electives.
Moreover, students must choose a specialisation topic to write their "mémoire" (a short dissertation) under the supervision of a researcher. Students will be graded for the mémoire and for the presentation of it to a jury of researchers.

In the last ten years, Financial markets, Insurance and Bank activities have developed tremendously in France and in other European countries. This development has opened a whole new range of jobs, especially for economists who master the quantitative techniques specific to the field of Finance, but also to engineers and applied mathematicians who wish to enter the world of finance. This Master, offered in collaboration with the Fédération Française des Sociétés d'Assurance, provides job prospects in those fields.
However, the chief objective of the Master is to initiate students to fundamental research within the MPSE team and to enable students who wish to pursue their doctoral studies to specialise in one of the following themes : Financial Engineering, Corporate Finance, Econometrics of Finance, Economics of Risk and Insurance, Market Finance, Economics of Banking and Monetary Economics.
Course organisation
Students follow the courses highlighted in the above chart, a combination of TSE core courses and specialised courses. Moreover, students must choose a specialisation topic to write their "mémoire" (a short dissertation) under the supervision of a professor - researcher. Students will be graded for the mémoire and for the presentation of it to a jury of researchers.
Finance courses are meant for training students in the specific topics they want to specialise. Elective courses and options are very few but, with the agreement of the Master director, they can be chosen amongst all elective of the TSE programme.
